Why Tatum?

Okay, so your probably asking why a blog all about Channing Tatum for a school project? I even got a few comments on the side from people who accused me of doing this just because he's "hot." Rather that is or isn't true it's nowhere near why I chose Channing Tatum for my project. If you'd like to know the true reason, keep reading.

Ever sense I could walk I would always be seen running around making up songs, jumping off couches pretending to do tricks on my imaginary skateboard, or dancing. I went through lots of phases where my career path changed again and again and it wasn't until I turned thirteen that I decided my dream was to be a background dancer. Now, hang on a second before you judge the word "background." Background dancers are allowed the privilege to tour with the best of the best and their average salaries are 50,000-60,000 dollars or more. Now why a background dancer in the first place? The answer is before your eyes; I watched my first dance film. What was that dance film? Step up 2 the Streets. Who was in my favorite and most inspiring scene? Channing Tatum. So I figured, why not make a blog about an actor with an influence. Besides, in the process I would learn more about him, Yes I am his fan, but why would I blog about something I wasn't interested in? That would make no sense.

About Channing Tatum

Channing Matthew Tatum was born on April 26th, 1980 in Cullman, Alabama. His mother and father were Kay and Glenn Tatum and he had one sister named Paige. At age six Channing moved to Tampa, Florida where he attended Gaither High School. However after his sophomore year, due to his behavior, Channing's parents sent him off to Tampa Catholic High School. He graduated in 1988. Once he had graduated he was offered a scholarship for Glenville State College in Glenville, West Virginia to play football. However he turned this down after he was no longer interested in the sport and stayed home to work. Later on in his life he meet his current wife Jenna Dewan, also an actor, who co-starred with Channing in Step up (where they met). They married in September of 2008 in Maui, Hawaii and now live with their two dogs in California.

Puppy Love

Not only is Jenna working to help out but Channing worked to save a small puppy that he later named Lulu! Channing rescued Lulu from an animal shelter in Alabama when she was just seven weeks old. Channing adopted Lulu after he was finished filming Dear John (just before Christmas)

Now how cute is that? Not only is he an amazing actor, dancer, and model but he still finds time to care for and love his little lap dog.

Jenna helps to raise money

On December 12, 2009 Channing Tatum's wife Jenna Tatum helped to start up a toy drive at the Alice and Olivia Boutique in Beverly Hills, California to benefit the Eisner Pediatric Clinic located in LA, California. With every toy someone donated they received 20% off a purchase at the Boutique.

Now, I don't know about you but I would say that was an amazingly kind gesture! This should give us all a little push to help out! If she can take time out of her busy schedule so can we! Maybe we all can learn something from her work. Channing and Jenna are happily married and there's really no wondering why when your dealing with wonderful people like Jenna! It makes me want to go out and help those in need.

"Dear Joe, please Step Up 2 the Man"

Of Channing's many movies I have only seen but five of his films. Dear John, Step Up 1 and 2, She's the Man, and G.i. Joe. Hense the play on words in the post tittle. Even though I have only had the chance to view five of Channing's outstanding work I have been absolutely blown away. Dear John, Channing's most recent film, was definitely a tear jerker. I won't give away the ending for those who haven't seen it yet, but it was one of his best movies! Though the film itself was a little lengthy and I think director, Lasse Hallström could have done more to fix that problem. As far as Channing's acting goes I will boldly say that he plays his stunning (main) character, John Tyre, perfectly. From Channing's facial expressions to his tone of voice. I would say that Hallstrom's best decision was choosing Tatum for the role of John. I would also have to say that Channing was born to play the role of a military recruit and that he transforms his humor into drama for the role amazingly well for someone who's used to cracking jokes and being highly enthusiastic.

Step Up and Step Up 2 the Streets are both in my opinion superb films. I have viewed each at least fifteen plus times. What makes these films unlike the rest is that Channing takes on the challenging role of a dancer. He executes each move flawlessly and frankly I think that he makes the entire movie. He has an uncanny ability to fill the shoes of any person that he has to become. What's this mean..? He's an OUTSTANDING actor of course! Take a look at Channing's amazing (Only) performance in Step Up 2 the Streets.

In the fantasy war film G.I. Joe Rise of the Cobra, Channing plays the role of Captain Duke Hauser. All in all my general opinion of the movie plot line itself was that it could have been better. I don't think that Director
Stephen Sommers chose the correct actors to portray each character and to me, because of the character choice it caused the movie to seem "corny" because the actors didn't seem to dig down and relate to their character as much as they should of, and preformed more like one would in a Broadway production than a feature film. Even though I don't believe Channing was quiet right for a fiction thriller I think that Channing tried his best at becoming his character and that G.I. Joe is still a reflection of what Channing is Capable of even though it doesn't, in my opinion, express his FULL potential.

Finally, in She's the Man, Channing plays the role of Duke Orsino, a dedicated soccer player who is fallen for by Viola Hastings (main character) (played by Amanda Bynes). Here Channing does an amazing job of playing his role of a lovestruck teenager. One who can't seem to find his words whenever he's around his crush. Channing is definitely able to cause more than a few laughs alongside Amanda. Together the two of them make the film outrageously funny. In one scene where Channing's long time crush approaches him in the gym, it was all I could do to hold in my laughter as he became tongue tried and made a fool of himself in front of the entire gym. Another scene in the film a tarantula intrudes in Dukes dormitory. Once the arachnid is spotted you are sure to laugh as him and Amanda (posing as a male in this scene) jump up on the bed and scream  until the intruder leaves. Leaving Both Duke and Viola (Who Duke thinks is really Sebastian, who is actually Viola's twin brother) hugging each other and screaming at the top of their lunges! This film was definitely my favorite. Check out the trailer here.

Say Whattttt?

Quotes by Channing Tatum:

"I don't know if I'm very complicated at all. I wish I was. I wish I was one of these deep, intricate people. But I just love having fun really."

"I sort of became infatuated with soldiers. I got to know some of them and got a little perturbed with Hollywood making a spectacle out of them and making them look like they have screwed up somehow."

"I really get inspired by songs..."

"I think all jocks have a sensitive side. It's just, will they show it to anybody? Will they let their guard down and stop being tough and the cool jock guy around their friends, or just relax? I don't know if it's best to say opening up, but just relax and really say what you're actually thinking, and not what you think people want to hear."

"Life is too short to miss out on the beautiful things like a double cheeseburger."

Reading these quotes gives me a little taste of what type of personality Channing has, of course there is always the possibility that he only said these for positive attention, which is often the case with many actors and actresses. Though judging on the content I would guess they were pretty accurate they appear to be legit. He seems to be critical of himself and appears to have a large sense of humor. Together I would say, this combination makes quite a humble character. Nothings worse than a movie star that acts like there better than the rest of us. I tend to appreciate down to earth actors/actresses verses the common "it's all about me" stars. it's with things like quotes and interviews you can see and actor's/actresses true personality.

Ladder of success

Channing Tatum got his first shot at fame when he starred in Ricky Martin's "She Bangs." Afterwords he modeled for Abercrombie and Fitch, Pepsi, Gap, Aeropostal, American Eagle, Mt. Dew, and many others like it. Channing said this about his modeling career; “It’s made my life, and my family’s life, a lot easier, because I never knew what I wanted to do and now they don’t really have to worry about me anymore. I’ve been able to explore life, and through exploring it I’ve found that I love art, I love writing, I love acting, I love all the things that make sense to me. And I’ve been given the chance to go out and see the world, and to see all the things out there. Not everyone gets that chance” - Channing Tatum (Channingtatumunwrapped.com)

Channing's acting career too off in 2004 when he appeared in CSI Miami and then later on Coach Carter a wonderful and unique film about a basketball team that is in shambles until a new coach (Carter) steps up to the plate to whip them into shape and teach them valuable lessons of both life and teamwork.

Looking back to Channing's quote, I find  it heartwarming that Channing is concerned with rather or not his family worries about him or not. However not all of his photos can be deemed appropriate which can be a limitation to the ages of his audience. Although it is a positive thing after all if it helped him learn more about his life and it helped open the doorway for his acting career which is still going on strong.

And this award goes to...

Channing has won many awards for his outstanding acheivements as an actor. He's been nominated to win Best Supporting Actor and Choice Myspacer by the Independent Spirit Awards and The Teen Choice Awards. Channing has received the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 2006, Choice movie Actor and choice movie in Drama by the Teen Choice awards in 2008.

The Teen Choice awards, as the tittle declares, is made for the youth of America. The fact that Channing has won an award concerning America's youth is a big deal. America's new generation's are America's future generations. This meaning that the Youth of America will run our future. It sounds like an elaborate but really it's not. I'll break it down. Channing is appealing to our youth: our youth will soon be the ones who run the office and the laws: If Channing appeals to our youth he appeals to their future as well. Or in other words his achevements will give the kids of America the much needed push to excel as he has.

Post the Love

Following the devastating Haiti earthquake Channing Tatum established his own website called postthelove.com here, people from around the world sign up just to post about their experiences with tragedies, love, happiness, and anything else that inflicts great emotion. Here Channing Tatum explains exactly why he set up this amazing website in the first place.

This is an amazing statement that Channing cares. I mean how many actors out there take the time to encourage their fans? This isn't just a website that he created one day and forgot the next, he actually updates it quite frequently! The last time he posted on this website was 7 days ago while at an airport. He even faithfully posts pictures and comments on the posts of his followers. I don't know about you but I think this says something about the type of actor Channing is. He would appear to be the type of person to look up to.

Channing's Hobbies

In High school Channing was enrolled in soccer, baseball, track, and football in which he was exceptionally superb at. His skills actually won him a scholarship to play at the University of Alabama, but Channing turned down the offer after he lost interest in the sport due to it's physical demands. Channing  also participated in Martial arts classes.
The fact that Channing was involved in extra curricular activities during his High school career, in my opinion proves that Channing is involved. I believe that having involvement with these activities prepared him for his future acting and modeling career. The involvement with taking orders and working together with a team more than likely prepared him for the real world and most importantly readied him to be under the pressure of the camera. His hobbies are more than likely the main contributor to him being discovered in the streets for modeling. If he hadn't been so active he may not have been in such superb shape. An being a model or actor in today's society means you have to be fit and healthy. Actors with even the slightest bit of body weight typically become posted on the front of magazines as unattractive and obese. A factor Channing will likely forgo.
